My grandfather was a rubber planter whose estate was called Sungei Tengah not far from Kuching (although I have never found it referenced or found it yet - any knowledge anyone?). Regrettably, he was captured and finally executed at Keningau by the Japanese during WW2. There is a memorial on the spot next to the airfield where he and five others died.
