Rain in Rarotonga

Posted by on 30 Nov 2007 | Tagged as: Cook Islands, On the road

Hi guys we arrived safely in Rarotonga in the cook islands..it is utterly beautiful but has not stopped raining which is a bit of a shame..and we leave for new Zealand tomorrow….no sun in paradise!!but sure beats England in November! Living in a lovely self catering cottage it feels like home and has been a lovely break. We were greeted here with necklaces of gorgeous smelling flowers..the people are lovely and everywhere looks clean and cared for…a real change from central America…well off to snorkel in the rain..typical brits eh!!at least the beach will be deserted! love to you all keep us in your prayers as we continue our adventures!back from our day so thought I would keep you up to date. Snorkeling was amazing..we took bread for the fish and we were surrounded by hundreds of huge fish..mostly blue in colour…swam about with them..gorgeous..then the kids started collecting shells and discovered they were all different types of hermit crabs..moving all over the beach..so we had fun..even though it was wet.Caught the bus back and somehow managed to get off the bus about 5 miles early!!!in the pitch black and a tropical rainstorm and swimmers we set off into the night wondering how on earth we had got into this one!We all blamed Hamish..he has got a geography degree!!anyway..we decided to hitch and was picked up by a very friendly Rarotongan man in a pick up truck..who took us all the way home..giggling in the back..feeling like we were back in Honduras..there is something lovely and liberating about pick ups!!back home for warm shower..and we had a bit of an invasion of centipedes..and one bit floras foot she was hysterical(cant say I blame her)it swelled and went red right up to her ankle..nasty things. Now all the kids are peacefully asleep..and we are going to read and chill!Still raining..leave for NZ tomorrow and will probably send this at the airport!Bye Rachel and gang.
